Two people were killed and several others were kidnapped on Saturday in an armed attack by militants suspected of being Islamic State (IS) terrorists on a government water supply project site in southeastern Libya, a local official said.
"Militants today attacked a site of the project near the city of Tazirbu southeastern Libya," Tawfiq al-Shwehdi, head of the information office of the Libyan Water Supply Authority, told Xinhua.
They also kidnapped two other employees and took them to an unknown location," al-Shwehdi said.
"The militants tampered with the site and stole all the vehicles and food supplies there," al-Shwehdi added, confirming that the militants are still unidentified.
However, another source said "everybody in the site believes that the militants are likely to belong to IS."
